This year, the long tradition may get a little more difficult to observe. For the first time, federal regulators are expected to prohibit the catching of bigeye — Hawaii's favored tuna variety — in waters west of the islands once the fishermen hit their annual catch limit. They're on course to do that around the first or second week of December. The potential for a shortage has produced anxiety here among consumers, fishermen, wholesalers and retailers, leaving them to wonder if they'll be able to get hold of the tuna, or ahi.

BC-150-actives-f

Ask AP: Shuttle Complexity, Credit Union Agency

A space shuttle is no tinker toy. But is it the most complex machine ever built? Curiosity about the complexity of the reusable spacecraft inspired one of the questions in this edition of "Ask AP," a weekly Q&A column where AP journalists respond to readers' questions about the news. And that particular question led NASA to rethink the way it describes the shuttle program. If you have your own news-related question that you'd like to see answered by an AP reporter or editor, send it to newsquestions(at)ap.org, with "Ask AP" in the subject line. And please include your full name and hometown so they can be published with your question.

Free Clinics Tied To Health Care Debate

A nonprofit group's campaign to hold free medical clinics for the uninsured in three states is turning into a not-so-subtle jab at moderate Democrats to support their party's efforts to reform health care. More than 800 people have signed up for free care Saturday at a downtown convention center in Little Rock at an event organized by the National Association of Free Clinics — the Virginia-based association's second free event in the past month under a campaign promoted by MSNBC's Keith Olbermann. More than 1,000 people showed up at the first, in New Orleans on Nov. 14, and a two-day free clinic is planned in Kansas City, Mo. Dec. 9-10.

Winfrey: Prayer, Careful Thought Influenced Exit

Holding back tears, Oprah Winfrey told her studio audience Friday that she would end her show in 2011 after a quarter-century on the air, saying prayer and careful thought led her to her decision. Winfrey told the audience that she loved "The Oprah Winfrey Show," that it had been her life and that she knew when it was time to say goodbye. "Twenty-five years feels right in my bones and feels right in my spirit," she said. Winfrey talked about being nervous when the program began in 1986 and thanked audiences who had invited her into their homes and lives over the past two decades.

BC-150-actives-n

Liberace, Cruise, Palin Among Winfrey's Highlights

Oprah Winfrey has racked up memorable moments during her long television reign. Some were moving, some embarrassing — to her or others — and a handful became pop-culture landmarks. Here are highlights through the years: — Winfrey gets the final TV interview with pianist-showman Liberace, six weeks before his AIDS-related death, 1986. — Winfrey travels to all-white Forsyth County, Ga., which had gained a reputation as being a hotbed for racism, 1987. It turns out that a majority of the county voices support for racial integration.

BC-150-actives-e

BC-150-actives-f

BC-150-actives-n
