Maryland lawmakers continue to weigh the pros and cons of a special legislative session to head off a projected budget deficit.
Pat Warren reports the governor's challenge is to find a consensus before time runs out.
Marylanders bombarded with news of a budget deficit war wait for the state's next move.
"So what we have proposed is a comprehensive plan that has five or six major components," Governor Martin O'Malley said.
Components which include tax increases, a non-starter for some, and slots, a legislative kiss of death for others.
"I mean the very fact that the Senate was able to pass a bill and the House was able to pass a bill shows there is room for consensus and I'm going to do my very best," O'Malley said.
"I think the governor faces an uphill battle right now," said political analyst Matt Crenson.
"Opposition will always be there," O'Malley said.
The governor has the power to call a special session at any time.
