Md. Nursing Assistant Cleared Of Sex Abuse Charge

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) ― A Frederick County jury has acquitted a Walkersville geriatric nursing assistant of charges he sexually abused a 92-year-old nursing home resident.

The jury deliberated less than an hour Tuesday before finding 25-year-old Clayvon Valentine not guilty of sexually abusing a vulnerable adult and second-degree assault.

Prosecutors say a co-worker at Homewood at Crumland Farms in Frederick reported seeing Valentine atop the elderly woman. The woman, who suffers from dementia, did not attend court.

Valentine testified that he was wrongly accused and a nursing staff clique was ganging up on him.

If he had been convicted, Valentine could have faced up to 15 years in prison on the abuse charge and up to 10 years for the assault charge.
