Owings Mills Metro Subway Station Closes Aug. 10

OWINGS MILLS, Md. (WJZ) ― The Maryland Transit Administration announced Wednesday that due to planned rail rehabilitation in the Owings Mills Station area, a complete shutdown of service between Owings Mills and Old Court Metro Subway stations will be required. The duration of the shutdown is anticipated to be 16 days beginning Friday evening, Aug. 10 and ending on Sunday, Aug. 26.

During the shutdown, regular Metro Subway service will terminate at the Old Court Station. There will be no Metro Subway service to or from the Owings Mills Station.

In order to accommodate the travel needs of Metro Subway customers and minimize service disruptions during reconstruction, the MTA has developed a "Special Action Plan" to help customers bypass the construction zone and stay on time as much as possible. The plan includes Shuttle Bus service between Owings Mills and Old Court Metro Subway stations. In addition, during construction, off-peak service will be available every 10 minutes.

Metro Subway's hours of operation will remain the same during the construction project: 5 a.m. to midnight Monday – Friday and 6 a.m. to midnight on Saturdays and Sundays. In order to provide consistent transportation to and from Owings Mills beyond Old Court Station and minimize inconvenience to riders, the Metro Subway schedule will be adjusted and Shuttle Bus service will be provided. On weekdays, Metro Subway will operate every 8 minutes during peak periods (this is the normal frequency during peak periods) and every 10 minutes during off-peak periods. On Saturdays and Sundays, Metro Subway will operate every 10 minutes all day.

The MTA is suggesting the following travel options.

TRAVEL OPTION #1
The MTA suggests that customers who are able to depart from a different station should consider driving to the Milford Mill or Reisterstown Plaza Metro stations during the shutdown. Milford Mill features a large, well-lit parking lot and easy access to the station. Directions are as follows: From Owings Mills, travel south on Reisterstown Road, turn right on Milford Mill Road, follow the Metro Subway direction signs to the station entrance.

TRAVEL OPTION #2
Shuttle Buses will travel between Owings Mills and Old Court stations to accommodate commuters. Due to station enhancements associated with the Metro Centre at Owings Mills project, patrons will not be able to enter the station. Consequently, upon arrival at the Owings Mills Station, go directly to a Shuttle Bus boarding area. Shuttle Bus boarding areas are located in Lots A, B, and C located north and south of the station.

Pay the appropriate fare upon boarding and receive a continuation ticket from the driver. Customers who wish to purchase weekly, monthly, or round trip fares will be offered a courtesy ride to Old Court Station; however, they will not be issued a continuation pass for entry into the Metro Subway system.

Directional signs at Owings Mills and Old Court stations will direct customers to the Shuttle Bus boarding areas and "Metro Shuttle" will be displayed on each Shuttle Bus.
