Wheaton Amber Alert Discovered To Be A Hoax

WHEATON, Md. (WJZ/AP) ― WJZ'S Suzanne Collins has learned that the woman who was the subject of an overnight amber alert, fabricated a distress call to her aunt.

Sunday night the aunt of Sara Hernandez-Torrez received a call that her niece had been dragged from the Wheaton metro station against her will by a former boyfriend, Carlos Delcid. Ms. Torrez had her son Issac with her, which is why police issued the amber alert.

Around 10:30 am a Rockville public works worker, spotted the two vehicles in a driveway on Twinbrook parkway that fit the description of those being sought by police in the amber alert. After calling 9-1-1 police arrived at the scene and took Mr. Delcid into custody without incident, with Ms. Torrez and the young child watching on the doorstep.

Police announced after questioning Ms. Torrez, she admitted to lying to her aunt to try and hide a relationship that the family didn't approve of. Both Ms. Torrez, and Mr. Delcid face charge for making up the story.
