Police: Naked Frederick Man Photographed Children

FREDERICK, Md. (WJZ) ― A 76-year-old man is in trouble with the law, accused of an alarming crime map. Frederick City Police say the man stood naked in his window while taking pictures of children on the street.

As Peggy Lee reports, the man has a history with police.

It was on a busy downtown Frederick street that police say a bizarre crime was committed. An officer witnessed 76-year-old John Patrick Schwind standing at his window at his apartment on Market Street. They say he was naked and taking pictures of children outside.

"One of our officers was in the downtown area of Frederick, on North Market Street, in the 100 block and observed a suspect exposing himself in the window of a residence down there and was seen taking pictures of some juveniles outside the residence," said Sergeant Bruce DeGrange of Frederick City Police.

Police charged Schwind with indecent exposure. They say this happened Sunday afternoon with plenty of people on the streets.

The state's attorney's office has no prior records of Schwind here in Frederick. However, Schwind's name did pop up in other counties for similar incidents.

In 1992, the Montgomery County State's Attorney's Office says Schwind pleaded guilty to third-degree sexual assault.

Then in 1999 the Howard County State's Attorney's Office says he also pleaded guilty to third-degree sexual assault for molesting a five-year-old girl.

Schwind is listed on the Frederick County Sheriff's sex offender Web site.

As of Tuesday evening, Schwind had not been released from jail.
