Funeral Planned For Missing Boater Found Tuesday

WYE MILLS, Md. (WJZ) ― A celebration of life is planned for Friday afternoon for 49-year-old Paul Sohn, who died when his racing boat hit something and broke apart Sunday.

Sohn and his 15-year-old son, T.J., had just started racing in the 'Ragin on the River' competition when the accident happened. T.J. was thrown from the boat, but was not injured.

Sohn's body and Jersey Speed Skiff, 'Jumpin Jack Flash,' were found Tuesday 20 feet down in the muddy waters of the Susquehanna river near Port Deposit.

"This was Paul's passion," Sohn's wife Kim tells WJZ's Richard Sher. "No doubt, he died doing what he wanted to do."

Sohn had been racing for the past four years, always with one of his children, Brittany, Tiffany or T.J.

"I'm not sure what happened, if we hit something or what," says T.J. "I'm going to keep on racing. It's what Dad would have wanted me to do."

"Racing with my dad brought us closer together," says Tiffany.

The life celebration takes place Friday at Hunter's Oak on Carmichael Road in Wye Mills beginning at 3:00 p.m.

An education fund has been established for Paul Sohn's children. You can make checks payable to Kim Sohn and send them to this address:
