Teacher Pleads Guilty To Sex Offense With Student

by Peggy Lee
MARRIOTTSVILLE, Md. (WJZ) ― A former Howard County teacher admits to having sex with a 15-year-old student.

Peggy Lee reports moments into day one of her trial, 27-year-old Kirsten Anne Kinley admitted she sexually abused a 15-year-old boy. The former Howard County special education teacher pleaded guilty in Circuit Court Tuesday.

"She pleaded guilty to a 3rd degree sex offense involving sexual relations with a 15-year-old boy that happened a couple of years ago," said Wayne Kirwan, spokesperson from the State's Attorney's Office.

Kinley was arrested February 12th, after the boy said Kinley sent him text messages and explicit photographs of herself, when she worked at Hammond Middle School -- shortly after a second teen made similar allegations.

By taking the plea deal the second case will be dropped.

"She has consistently denied that there was any other teen involved and also any other incidents involved this case," said Kiran.

Even more alarming prosecutors say, this is the third Howard county teacher to be accused this year of having sexual contact with students.

Twenty-five-year-old Joseph Ellis was arrested on January 8th for exposing himself to one student, sending suggestive e-mails to another, and trying to lure a third student to a park on the promise of alcohol.

Fifty-two-year-old Alan Beier was arrested January 12th for undressing and photographing a 16-year-old student and fondling a 17-year-old student.

As for Kinley's case both sides say the plea deal is good for all involved.

Kinley stood up and admitted doing wrong, and now she just wants to get on with her life.

"I think the victim is satisfied that justice is being served in this case," said Kiran

The board of education fired Kinley in May.
