Man Gets Life For Killing In Cigarette Dispute

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) ―

A District of Columbia man has been sentenced to life in prison for killing a man in an apparent dispute over a cigarette.

Prince George's County prosecutors say Antonio McGhee, 20, was convicted in December of first-degree murder in the March 17 death of Keith Dreher, 26, outside Papa John's Pizza in Oxon Hill.

Police say McGhee approached Dreher and asked him for a cigarette. Dreher refused, then went outside to smoke. Prosecutors say McGhee followed Dreher outside, shot Dreher in the head with a sawed off shotgun, and then ran away.

Dreher died at the scene.

At the trial, a witnesses to the shooting who had identified McGhee in a photo spread for police, recanted. Prosecutors introduced his written statement and out-of-court identification of McGhee as evidence.
