Western Md. Bank Robbers Held Family Hostage

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) ―

Police in Hagerstown say a pair of armed men held a mother and her child hostage for about six hours last week after robbing a bank.

The fresh details are emerging a week after the incident, with the perpetrators still at large.

Sergeant Paul Kifer says the men entered the family's apartment shortly after robbing a nearby M&T Bank branch, disarming a Washington County sheriff's deputy and firing a shotgun at his car.

Kifer says the bandits held the single mother and her child inside the apartment for more than five hours. Then one of the men left and the other ordered the woman to drive him to a location just north of the downtown area.

Kifer says the hostages weren't harmed and have been moved to another location.
