Parents Get Some Back-To-School Shopping Relief

BALTIMORE (WJZ) ― Along with back to school comes hours of shopping for the right supplies, shoes and clothes. WJZ's Gigi Barnett reports in tonight's school watch that one Baltimore city school is getting most of those items free of charge.

Every year, Forman Mills randomly selects a local school for free uniforms. This year, Hazelwood Elementary-Middle school students were the lucky recipients.

Every student there received a $30 voucher for new school uniforms. Parents say the cash makes a big difference.

"I have more than one child," said Kendra Pierce. "It helps us get a good start..and with uniforms...you can wear them over."

Officials say more schools are turning to uniforms instead of allowing trendy styles.

"Having a uniform minimizes the distractions about clothes and what you're wearing...and helps us focus in on our real business," said city school CEO Dr. Charlene Cooper Boston. "Getting a good education."

In all, Forman Mills donated about $20,000 in uniform vouchers.
