Baltimore Arabbers Get Temporary Home

by Richard Sher
BALTIMORE (WJZ) ― For the second time in less than a week, 49 horses that belong to Baltimore's arabbers have a new, temporary home.

Their West Baltimore building was condemned by the city last Thursday. It was determined to be dangerously unsafe. With the help of Days End Farm and the Maryland Jockey Club, the 49 horses were moved to the Bowie Race Course in Prince George's County. Tuesday, they were brought to a new temporary facility on the back lot at Pimlico Race Course.

"I never thought I'd live to see this. It's a dream come true," said Donald "Manboy" Savoy, 74. Savoy has been arabbing for 50 years.

"We're working as fast as we can to find them a new home. We could be here a few months, hopefully no more than three," said Reggie Scriber, deputy director of housing, to Richard Sher.

"It's been taxing. It's taken a lot of manpower to move these horses twice. As far as the health of the horses, I'd say it's average," said Brooke Vraney, director of Days End Farm in Lisbon, Howard County.
