Anne Arundel County To Enact Water Ban
by Meteorologist Tim Williams
ANNAPOLIS (WJZ) ―
Despite the recent rainfall in Maryland, parts of Anne Arundel and Howard counties are expected to enact mandatory water restrictions in the coming weeks. A water line in need of repair is the problem, but fixing it is taking longer than expected.
Problems were discovered after a routine inspection of the 54-inch water line showed it was so badly damaged that it could not be put back into service.
"We lost our entire supply from Baltimore City at the northern part of Anne Arundel County," Richard Dixon of the Anne Arundel County Bureau of Utilities tells
WJZ's Tim Williams.
Now mandatory water restrictions in northwestern Anne Arundel County will mean no watering of driveways, decks, or patios. There will be no washing of vehicles of boats and no filling pools or watering lawns with a running hose during designated hours.
The restrictions will run from May 3 to October 1, Monday through Thursday from 5 p.m. until midnight. They will also be enforced from Friday at 5 p.m. until midnight Sunday during that period.
"No restrictions during the winter because demands are down, but if they do not get the line fixed for next summer we could have restrictions next summer," says Dixon.
Businesses are expected to cut back 10-percent usage during the ban. At least 200,000 people will be affected by the restrictions.
