Grand Jury Hears Evidence In Bowling Brook Death

WESTMINSTER, Md. (AP) ― A Carroll County grand jury has convened to hear evidence in the death of a teenager at a private school for juvenile offenders.

The grand jury is considering whether criminal charges should be brought against staff at the Bowling Brook Preparatory School. Seventeen-year-old Isaiah Simmons died there in January after a lengthy struggle with staff.

The grand jury met Thursday, and Carroll County Deputy State's Attorney David Daggett says it will meet again Friday.

He has said the grand jury needs to decide wither the death resulted from gross negligence or simple negligence. A finding of gross negligence could lead to criminal charges.
