Md. Recruit Faces Review Before He Can Enroll

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) ―

University of Maryland basketball recruit Tyree Evans will face the Office of Student Discipline before he can enroll.

Athletic department officials won't speculate on how much time will be needed for the review and a decision on Evans' admission.

Evans is a 23-year-old junior college guard. He pleaded guilty to separate marijuana and assault misdemeanors in 2006 and 2007.

Maryland coach Gary Williams says he believes Evans can succeed at Maryland.

Athletic directory Debbie Yow told The (Baltimore) Sun on Wednesday that she was unaware Evans was being recruited until he verbally accepted a scholarship offer.
