Roberts, Gibbons Acknowledge Steroids Mistakes

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla (AP) ― Brian Roberts and Jay Gibbons worked out together in Arizona this offseason. They lifted weights, ran on the treadmill and had several conversations about the Mitchell Report, in which each player was accused of using performance enhancing drugs.

Roberts and Gibbons Tuesday again acknowledged their misdeeds.

Speaking one after the other, each apologized for his conduct.

Gibbons says he has no excuses and blames himself. He will serve a 15-day suspension at the start of the season for receiving a shipment of the human growth hormone after January 2005, when it was banned by baseball.

Roberts was implicated in the Mitchell Report by former teammate Larry Bigbie. Roberts acknowledged he made a terrible decision by taking one shot of steroids in 2003. He says he is moving on. While he says he knows he made a mistake, he won't let it change the rest of his life.
