O's Select Contract Of LHP Waters, Send Fahey Down

BALTIMORE (WJZ) ―

The Orioles have selected the contract of LHP Chris Waters from Triple-A Norfolk and optioned INF Brandon Fahey to the Tides.

To make room for Waters on the 40-man roster, the Orioles have transferred RHP Jim Hoey (right shoulder surgery) from the 15-day to the 60-day disabled list.

Waters will make his major league debut in a start against the Los Angeles Angels Tuesday. The 27-year-old left-hander was 8-6 with a 4.65 ERA (122.0IP, 63ER) in 24 games between Double-A Bowie and Norfolk this season, including 3-1 with a 3.60 ERA (35.0IP, 14ER) in six starts for the Tides in July. He was originally signed by the Orioles as a minor league free agent prior to the 2007 season.

Fahey, 27, has batted .241 (21-87) with five runs and 11 RBI in 33 games for the Orioles this season.
