Orioles Open 2009 Season At Home

BALTIMORE (WJZ) ― With the playoffs eluding the Orioles again this season, there are plenty of home games for fans to look forward to in 2009, starting with the home-opener against the Yankees.

The Orioles will begin their 2009 season at home in Oriole Park on Monday, April 6 against the New York Yankees.  The Orioles have opened the season at home 40 times out of the last 56 years.

After an off-day on April 7, the club will conclude their three-game series against the Yankees, then host the Tampa Bay Rays for three games to conclude the Opening Week of the season.

The Yankees will return to Baltimore two more times in 2009 with a Mother's Day weekend series, May 8-10, and a three game set the last week of August.

The Orioles' 2009 schedule also includes three homestands against the Boston Red Sox, two of which are weekend series.

The Orioles' two other American League East opponents, Tampa Bay and Toronto, will make three trips each to Baltimore.

Baltimore will play 15 home games in April, their busiest month at Oriole Park.  Overall, the Orioles will play 47 of 88 games prior to the All-Star break at Oriole Park.  Their longest homestand of the season is a ten-game set starting Aug. 27 and ending Sept. 6.

The Orioles will face the National League East in interleague play in 2009.  The Atlanta Braves (June 12-14) and New York Mets (June 16-18) will visit Camden Yards, and the Birds will continue their rivalry with Washington in a home-and-home series against the Nationals.  Baltimore will play in Washington, May 22-24, then host a three-game series against the Nationals, June 26-28.  The Orioles will also travel to Philadelphia (June 19-21) and Florida (June 23-25) for two three-game series against the Phillies and Marlins.

All of the American League Central teams will make one visit each to Oriole Park.  In the AL West, the Texas Rangers (April 24-27 and Sept. 4-6) and Los Angeles Angels (April 28-29 and Aug. 14-17) will make two trips to Baltimore, and the Seattle Mariners (June 9-11) and Oakland Athletics (Aug. 10-12) will each make one visit to Camden Yards.

Baltimore's busiest travel month is July, when they play 16 of 25 games away from Camden Yards.

Baltimore
will conclude the season at home with a three-game series against Toronto, Oct. 2-4.
