Johns Hopkins Beats Navy In NCAA Quarters 10-4

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) ―

Steven Boyle and Paul Rabil scored three goals apiece to lead defending national champion Johns Hopkins to a 10-4 victory over Navy in the NCAA tournament quarterfinals on Saturday.

Kevin Huntley added two goals for third-seeded Johns Hopkins (10-5), which earned a semifinal berth for the 28th time since the NCAA began sanctioning men's lacrosse in 1971.

The Blue Jays, who also won the title in 2005, will play the winner of Sunday's quarterfinal between top-seeded Duke (17-1) and Ohio State (11-5) next Saturday in Foxborough, Mass.

Goalkeeper Mike Gvozden made 13 saves for Hopkins, which held Navy scoreless for more than 33 minutes.

Mikelis Visgauss scored unassisted to give Navy a 3-2 lead with 54 seconds left in the first half.

But Hopkins responded with a 6-0 run that included two goals by Boyle and a goal and an assist from Rabil.

The Midshipmen (10-6) would not score again until Greg Clement's goal at the 12:12 mark cut the deficit to 8-4.

Rabil now has a school-record 42 points (21 goals, 21 assists) in the NCAA tournament, exceeding the previous mark of 39 held by Brian Wood (1984-87).

A crowd of 17,017 filled Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium, setting a record for the NCAA quarterfinals.
