Trembley: It's 'A Bad Day For Baseball'
BALTIMORE (AP) ―
Orioles manager Dave Trembley only had to read a quarter of the 409-page Mitchell Report, to determine the damage of the document outlining the use of steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs over the past two decades.
He said it was not a good day for baseball. And it was definitely not a good day for the Orioles. Jay Gibbons and Brian Roberts, two current members of the 40-man roster, were named in the report, as were former players Rafael Palmeiro, Miguel Tejada, Larry Bigbie, Jerry Hairston Junior and Jason Grimsley.
The Mitchell Report painted a disturbing picture of the Baltimore clubhouse, combining Bigbie's interview with an earlier report from the House Committee on Government Reform in which Tejada said he gave vitamin B12 shots to three teammates, Palmeiro and "Players A and B."
Tejada was traded Wednesday to the Houston Astros. Orioles president of baseball operations Andy MacPhail said then that the deal had nothing to do with the pending release of the Mitchell Report.
