Blast Add 3 More Players To 2008-2009 Roster
BALTIMORE (WJZ) ―
Baltimore Blast President and General Manager Kevin Healey announced Monday that the team has signed defender Jonathan Greenfield, forward Machel Millwood and forward/midfielder Carlos Garcia.
Greenfield spent the last two seasons with the Detroit Ignition while Millwood and Garcia helped lead Baltimore to two championships in the last three years.
The Blast will open the 2008-09 National Indoor Soccer League on Nov. 15 at 1st Mariner Arena against the Orlando Sharks.
Greenfield , who has been part of South Africa's National Team program since the U-14 level, ranked sixth on the Ignition in points (44) and tied for third on the team in blocks (24). He was an All-MISL Selection for the Ignition after the 2006-07 season and spent two seasons with the Milwaukee Wave before going to Detroit. Greenfield has spent the last two summer seasons playing for the Minnesota Thunder in the USL First Division and also played in the South African Premier League.
Millwood, the MVP of the 2006 Championship Series, is returning for his fifth season in Baltimore. He ranked second on the Blast and sixth in the League with 83 points last season. Millwood, who played for Jamaica's U-17 National Team, played collegiate soccer at Towson University where he was named All-American Honorable Mention, Colonial Athletic Association First Team All-Conference and CAA All-Tournament Team in 2002.
Garcia, who started his career with the Blast in 2003-04, has won three championships with the team and is returning for his sixth season. He has recorded 105 points in 109 career Blast games. A 2003 graduate of William & Mary, Garcia was a First-Team All-South Atlantic Region selection his last collegiate season.
In other Blast news, the team will open training camp on Monday, Oct. 20. The team will train Monday through Friday mornings at Du Burns Arena leading up to the season opener.
The Blast will hold an intrasquad scrimmage on Saturday, Nov. 1 at Du Burns Arena at 6 p.m. Tickets for the scrimmage will be available at the door on the 1st for $5. All proceeds will go to the Friends of Mike Woodard Fund.
