AST Dew Tour Heads From Baltimore To Next Stop

BALTIMORE (WJZ) ― The area around the Ravens' Stadium is getting back to normal.

For the past week, temporary fences have cordoned off areas being used for the AST Dew Tour, which is a mix of skateboard, BMX and motorcycle sports.

Mike Schuh reports as soon as the event was completed, workers began tearing down the instant aluminum stadiums. Now many of the 50 semis are loaded and heading to the next stop.

The organizers were so happy with the sophomore run here in Baltimore, they've inked a deal to bring back the Dew Tour at least two more times.
The only thing standing in the way is the Orioles' schedule.

The Dew Tour began Thursday night. By closing on Sunday, more than 52,000 had poured through the gates watching BMX, motorcycles and skateboarders, all of whom look like they figured out how to defy gravity.

"Great event, we were pleased with 2008," said Chris Prybylo.

Prybylo is the tour's vice president. He says the number was slightly down because the weather scared the sun away. Still he's happy with the results.

One of the skateboarders is now a MTV reality star, and he also won his event.  Then there's Bucky Lasek who sported Maryland flags because he's from Dundalk. He won his first event.

But all good things must end. It took two weeks to set up and just two days to tear down.

What was left behind?

"People are telling us $10-$12 million," said Prybylo.

This event was created for television worldwide, and that's exposure that can't be bought.

"We're showing Baltimore to the world," said Prybylo.

Before coming back to Baltimore next year, the Dew Tour has four more stops. The next one is a month from now in Cleveland along the lakefront there.
