Zagat Survey Highlights Best Baltimore Restaurants

More Information About The Zagat Survey

BALTIMORE (WJZ) ― The Zagats publish the most successful restaurant guides in the world, and you've helped them write the reviews of restaurants in Baltimore.

Ron Matz has more on your favorites and the husband and wife team who are the most trusted names in dining.

When it comes to fine food, diners turn to the Zagat Survey.

Publishers Tim and Nina Zagat started it as a hobby in 1979.

More than 7,000 food fanatics in Baltimore have contributed to the latest guide.  Harbor East's Charleston is tops.

"You have thousands of local people who are really telling us what to put in the guide.  It really comes from them," said Tim Zagat.

The gastronomic gurus say Baltimore's food scene is changing.

"Just as Baltimore has been going through a renaissance the guide is designed to reflect that renaissance.  Baltimore has more variety and more exciting restaurants," said Tim Zagat.

"When we looked over the list this time we were happily surprised to see there were so many family restaurants," said Nina Zagat.

Samos in Greektown got a nod for top food.  Jimmy's in Fells Point has a Zagat Award for one of the best bargains in town.

"There are lots of inexpensive restaurants in the guide. We always pay a lot of attention to providing people with places where they can get a really good buy," said Nina Zagat.
