Couple Gets Married At Harford County Wawa

ABINGDON, Md. (WJZ) ― Compared to other holidays like Valentine's Day and New Year's Eve, Independence Day isn't exactly the most romantic.

But as Gigi Barnett reports, one Harford County couple decided that it is, and tied the knot in an unusual place.

Right next to the fresh coffee, baked potato chips and hoagies at the Wawa in Abingdon, Scott Gaddis and Cindy Richardson exchanged vows.

They did it as family members, morning customers and Wawa workers watched.

They didn't meet at Wawa.

"Cindy owned a dump truck and needed a part-time driver, and I ended up being the part-time driver and full-time boyfriend," said Scott.

After Scott popped the question, he turned to Wawa workers for another question.

"Cindy and Scott came to our store and asked our manager if he minded if they got married here. He said, 'We'd be glad to honor you,'" said Wawa worker Sandy Galloway.

"We have always come here since we've been together even when things weren't good. This was kind of neutral ground for us and we would come in and talk and have coffee. We're here everyday, even on our days off. We just got nicknamed the Wawa couple," said Cindy.

Sandy helped to decorate the store and name the couple.

"We decorated a little bit and we honored them and we welcomed them. They're good customers.  They come in every morning and I started calling them the Wawa couple," said Sandy.

The couple also decided on the Abingdon Wawa for their wedding ceremony because many of their friends work there.

With a wedding at the Wawa and on the 4th of July, the couple isn't exactly traditional.  The couple practices Wicca, a nature-based religion and wanted a Native American ceremony.

When the ceremony ended, guests didn't travel far to the reception. It was at Wawa, too.
