Fans Line Up To Meet King Of Horror In Dundalk
DUNDALK, Md. (WJZ) ―
Some call him the king of horror. Others call him one of the best writers of all time. Stephen King visited a Baltimore County store Wednesday for a special occasion.
Kai Jackson has the details.
They waited for several hours in the rain and cheered for the king of horror.
"Master of the macabre, creepiness, scary, spooktacular," said Will Bozarth.
International super-author Stephen King kicked off his national book tour at the Dundalk Wal-Mart. Starting at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, the first 400 fans who bought a copy of his new novel, "Under the Dome," met King and left with a signed book.
The Halls of Bel Air hauled their RV to the parking lot Tuesday. Yes, that means they spent the night.
"So that we could get in as soon as we could," said Lynette Hall.
"This is a once in a lifetime opportunity and I'm very excited," said Tracey Berry.
"You never see him making very many public appearances so to meet and see him in person is just going to be awesome," said Rob Hall.
King spoke for 15 minutes, then started signing books. It's something he has not done for 17 years.
Many people are asking, why Dundalk? The answer is simple: go where your biggest fans are.
"This Wal-Mart in Dundalk sells more Stephen King books as a percentage of our sales than any other Wal-Mart. He is our best-selling author," said manager Paul Kram.
Devoted follows came as far as Spain for the Dundalk signing, but Will Bozarth rearranged his life.
"In March, I ship off to Navy basic training and I delayed my shipping because I knew Stephen King was going to be here," Bozarth said.
Nearly 1,000 copies of the book have been sold at the Dundalk Wal-Mart. It was just released Tuesday.
