3rd Graders Head To The Movies For Education

BALTIMORE (WJZ) ―

Some Baltimore elementary school students didn't go to class Monday.

Sally Thorner reports they went to the movies instead, but that was part of the lesson plan.

Now playing at the Senator Theatre: "Welcome Mt. Royal Elementary."

It's not some new movie we have yet to hear about.  Baltimore City third graders were lining up to get in to learn.  It's called edutainment.

Third grade teacher Noel Lopez says they are trying to prepare the youngsters for the standardized testing known as MSAs.

"A multimedia format touches upon those things they enjoy," Lopez said.

It takes a village to "Ace that Assessment."  The Senator's Tom Kiefaber is happy to help.

"It's good for the community," Kiefaber said.  "It's a win-win for everybody."

"It's fun and you can learn new stuff," said Briana Smith.
