Ravens Trucking In Sod For AC Milan-Chelsea Game

BALTIMORE (AP) ―

The Baltimore Ravens are shipping in natural grass from Virginia to provide the best pitch money can buy for soccer clubs Chelsea and AC Milan when they meet at M&T Bank Stadium as part of the World Football Challenge.

The synthetic turf in the stadium is considered among the best in the NFL, but soccer at the highest level is almost always played on natural grass. As part of the agreement to host the game, the Ravens arranged to install temporary sod on top of their own turf for the July 24 game.

Groundskeeper Don Follett says it will take about 30 truckloads of sod, which will be shipped back to Virginia to be replanted for future use.

The team announced recently that more than 60,000 tickets have been sold.
