High Oil Prices Affect Landscaping Service Costs
BALTIMORE COUNTY, Md. (WJZ) ―
The sound of spring weather is costing more this year.
Kelly McPherson reports as the value of oil goes up, so do landscaping services.
A&J Landscaping works on 65 lawns per week from Perry Hall to Bel Air.
"Homeowners are not skimping on this luxury. It's already a busy season," said Andrew Lacey.
Cutting a lawn requires lots of gas, 37 gallons each time Andrew goes to the pump. He fills up his landscaping supply every two days. This year, he's paying twice as much money for gas compared to last year. In the end, that means he's paying about $700 more per month.
To cover his gas bill, this business owner is raising the cost either each time he visits or through a monthly fee.
He says so far customers understand the cost of convenience is going to go up in a faltering economy, but he senses frustration is not too far off.
"It's going to be that day when it's $4.50 a gallon and everybody's yelling because it's too much money," Lacey said.
He'll keep the engines going, hoping homeowners keep signing up for service, despite the rising price.
