Locust Point may be getting a new look if plans unveiled Thursday come to pass.
Locust Point could get a facelift.
Jessica Kartalija reports a local developer wants to bring new life to Tide Point with a massive expansion project.
One of America's oldest factory-based neighborhoods could become new again.
Struever Brothers is unveiling plans for a nearly 200,000 square foot new development which includes a nine-story office building, an immigration museum and restaurant and several apartments, condos and townhomes right in the heart of Tide Point.
"Well I think we're in an early stage of conceptual master planning process for expanded Tide Point. This is in particular focused around the Under Armour expansion with Proctor and Gamble warehouses," said Bill Struever.
Plans for redevelopment come as Baltimore's Harbor East neighborhood is becoming a hot spot on the rise.
The owners of The Edge On Central wanted to be right in the thick of things.
"We've been here for a year and we're actually coming up on our one year anniversary, and business has just been great," said Darlene Stogsdill, owner of The Edge On Central.
"The water is such a big draw in downtown Baltimore. It's such an asset that people want to take advantage of. We've got offices that want to move to the waterfront, residential retailers. Everybody wants to take advantage of that. And we've got something that a lot of other cities don't have, so we want to take advantage, really use the opportunity we've got to create some real good density around the water," said Kirby Fowler, president of the Downtown Partnership.
So could Locust Point become the next big attraction? Let's hope not, says Andy Burgess.
"I do not like all of the development. It's enough is enough," said Burgess.
One concern some of the neighbors in the area have is over the height of the proposed buildings.
Struever Brothers say they are meeting with neighborhood groups to discuss their plans.
Some people living there have already approved an expansion plan that would allow Under Armour to hire 350 more employees over the next five years.
