by Ron Matz
BALTIMORE (WJZ) ―
Baltimore is mourning the death of beloved broadcaster Harry Shriver.
Shriver was the general manger of WFBR radio station. He died over the weekend.
Ron Matz reports not only was Shriver the general manager of a legendary radio station, he helped start the careers of some of Baltimore's best known personalities.
On Monday morning Tom Marr begin his WCBM radio show paying tribute to Harry Shriver, the man who brought Marr to Baltimore.
"Many of us in the Baltimore broadcast fraternity have lost a very close friend," said Marr. "When the history of Baltimore radio is written, it will be said he did things differently and he had a tremendous impact in both entertainment and news. He was a good guy to work for," said Marr.
Shriver made countless friends during his long career.
"I don't know where I would be without Harry Shriver and the confidence he placed in me when I was a youngster," said
WJZ's Ron Matz.
In 1970, Shriver gave Matz his first on-air job. He nurtured the careers of sportscaster Charley Eckman, the flying Dutchman and Stan "The Fan" Charles.
Harry Shriver was 74 and died of heart failure. He is survived by his former wife Pat, two sons and five grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Sunday at the Loring Byers Funeral home in Randallstown.
