Retired Baltimore Circuit Court Judge Thomas Ward is being called a hero in his Bolton Hill neighborhood. The 80-year-old former Army paratrooper and boxer was walking home when he saw a man climbing a fence.
"I don't know what got into me, but I looked up at him and yelled, `Come on, baby! You're mine!'" Ward told
Richard Sher.
The two fought on the street until Judge Ward was able to subdue the suspect.
Neighbors called 911 and police rushed to Bolton Street and arrested 40-year-old Paul McClaine Jones and charged him with burglary, assault and 16 other crimes. He's being held without bail.
"It's not a macho thing. I did what I feel every citizen should do to correct the serious situation taking place on our streets today," Ward said.
Although retired, Judge Ward still does fill-in work in the Circuit Court.
"He is my hero. Always has been," Joyce, his wife of almost 50 years, said.
