Md. Heroes Honored In Special Ceremony
HARFORD COUNTY, Md. (WJZ) ―
Some of Maryland's heroes were honored Wednesday as part of Emergency Medical Services Week.
Emergency personnel from around Maryland answer the call 500,000 times a year. Some of them were honored at special ceremonies.
Also honored were six young people who are credited with saving lives, like then 4-year-old Alexus Epps. She saw fire in her family's Prince George's County house, and made sure everyone got out safely.
"I saw the blanket on fire and ran to get my mommy out of the shower," she told Richard Sher.
Nicole Harding, 15, called 911 after her 6-year-old sister Lindsey was hit in the chest with a baseball and went into cardiac arrest.
"I called 911 and gave instructions to my mom, who was on the floor with Lindsey," she said.
Charlie Franklin, 15, saved two boaters from the icy waters of Solomons Harbor.
"I don't feel like a hero. To me, it was just another day, I guess," he said.
This is the week to honor 750,000 EMS providers nationwide.
