Forest Park Golf Course Opens $2 Million Clubhouse

BALTIMORE (WJZ) ― It's a $2.5 million project and it's being completed Tuesday. Forest Park Golf Course is finally opening its new clubhouse.

Ron Matz reports it has been more than a decade in the making.

It's big, modern and beautiful, and has the look of a country club.

The final touches are being put on the new clubhouse at Forest Park Golf Course. A new pro shop is part of the $2.6 million project.

They broke ground back in February, but head golf pro Tim Sanders says he's been looking in the rearview mirror much longer.

"The whole process has been going on for about 10 years, trying to get the funds for the building. It's beautiful and it's been a long time coming. We're proud to have it," said Sanders.

Golfers love the feel and the little things.

"It's just a different atmosphere.  You feel proud to be part of Forest Park now," said golfer Joe Pajardo from Columbia.

"It took years. It's a joint partnership between the city, the state and us. It's going to be close to $2.6 million when it's all done. We've got a quality product and it's really going to enhance the neighborhood," said Jon Ladd, Executive Director of Baltimore Municipal Golf.

The clubhouse features a new ballroom, which can accommodate up to 150 people.

Professional golfer Jim Thorpe, who attended Morgan State University, will join Mayor Sheila Dixon Tuesday evening for the official ribbon cutting at Forest Park.
