Local Shelter Needs Homes For 400 Cats & Dogs

  BARCS' Website

BALTIMORE (WJZ) ―

Hundreds of Baltimore pet owners are being forced to surrender their cats and dogs for adoption.

Richard Sher reports right now, more than 400 animals are hoping to be adopted from Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter near M&T Bank Stadium in South Baltimore.

"It's really sad. Right now, 80% of the animals here are victims of foreclosure or eviction," said Jen Brause, BARCS' executive director.

The good news is that adoptions at BARCS are up 1000% and euthanasias are down 50%.

Jennifer Ingle and Donald Brewer are adopting a young dog for their daughter Kayla's fourth birthday.

"I think it's important to adopt animals that need love and have no place to live," Ingle said.
