Hunters Taking To Woods For Black Bear Hunt

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) ― Bear hunters are taking to the western Maryland woods.

The season starting Monday is the sixth since black bear hunting resumed in Maryland in 2004 after it had been outlawed for about 50 years.

Hunting is allowed only in Garrett and Allegany counties.

The season could run through Saturday, but it will end when the harvest reaches somewhere between 60 and 85 bears -- a quota set by the Department of Natural Resources.

Last year, hunters killed 56 bears in Maryland.
