Bowhunters Kill 42 Deer In Loch Raven Area

TOWSON, Md. (AP) ―

State Natural Resources officials say at least 42 white-tailed deer have been killed by hunters around Loch Raven Reservoir in Baltimore County during the first week of the fall bowhunting season.

Archers have claimed 11 antlered and 31 antlerless deer as part of an effort to curb the deer population in a 1,600-acre area of the reservoir's watershed.

The season began Sept. 15 and concludes Jan. 31. Numbers for this week aren't yet available.

The area around the reservoir has traditionally been off limits to hunters, 1,772 of whom hold permits to take part in the season.

Officials allowed the hunt because they deemed the population of deer too large for the local ecosystem.
