Horse Euthanized After Pit Bull Attack

FOREST HILL, Md. (WJZ) ―

It's been just over a week since a vicious pit bull attacked a herd of eight horses in Forest Hill.

Richard Sher
reports one-year-old Peanut was so severely injured, she had to be put down.

Phil Klein's daughter Danielle was taking a riding lesson at Dear Spring Farm when the dog attacked.

"The first thing I did was put Danielle in the tack room, told her not to come out. Then I found a piece of pipe and did what I could to stop the attack," said Klein.

Debbie Wilson owns the horses and has been giving riding lessons for 20 years.

"Just a half hour before the attack, I had three students on horses. The thought of them being attacked terrifies me," said Wilson.

Wilson's father Bob Bearsch took a pitchfork and held the dog down until animal control got there.

"I asked a deputy to shoot the dog, but he said he couldn't do that," said Bearsch.

Harford County Animal Control, which had cited the pit bull's owner in March and April for allowing the dog to run at large, ordered the dog euthanized.

Two other horses were also injured.
