Man Charged With Death Of Former Employer's Horse

UNION BRIDGE, Md. (WJZ) ― A horse was slashed and then left for dead at a farm in New Windsor.

Jessica Kartalija
reports the suspect is no stranger to the family.

Victoria and Phil Snader love horses.  They teach children how to ride at their farm in New Windsor. But on June 3, Victoria discovered her 25-year-old horse, Blue, had been brutally attacked.

"I look over and my horse is down in this field here," she said.

"The horse's tendons were cut, injuries to the chest, hips, facial and nose areas," said Major Phil Kasten.

"He's bleeding to death, blood everywhere and I had to leave him to go get help," Snader said.

Nine days later, Blue had to be euthanized.

"When we took the wires around, his whole skin was peeled off and it was just bone.  I didn't know if he could get up or not," she said.

Hidden cameras at the farm led police to 35-year-old Anthony Woodie, who used to work for the Snaders.  He was fired back in April.

"The suspect in this case, who was later identified by surveillance video, was employed by the farm and was terminated before a series of events that began in April," Kasten said.

Woodie faces several charges and is set to appear in district court.

"I was shocked.  I was shocked and very surprised.  I think everyone had their suspicions," Phil Snader said.

"If they can do something terrible like this, what else are they capable of?  It's a scary thing," Victoria Snader said.

Woodie is not being held behind bars at this point but he is charged with two counts of animal cruelty.

Anthony Woodie has no prior criminal history in Carroll County.
