8 Cats Die In Cecil County Fire

CHESAPEAKE CITY, Md. (AP) ― A woman whose house was declared uninhabitable after dozens of cats were found inside says eight cats died in a fire at the home.

Janice Brant of Chesapeake City tells the Cecil Whig that the fire Friday at her home caused $15,000 in damage. She says an electrical malfunction caused the fire.

No people were injured in the blaze.

In June, police and animal control officers found more than 80 cats in Brant's house, including many with feline leukemia, and 27 cat carcasses in her freezer.

Brant agreed to move most of her cats to other buildings on her property. She now says no cats will be coming back in the house.
