Man Gets His Dog Back After Carjacking

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (WJZ) ― When thieves drove away with a college student's Jeep late last week, they took more than just the vehicle.

As Mike Schuh reports, a member of the family of a military policeman was in the car when it sped away.

It was at a gas station in Annapolis when everything went wrong for Benjamin Terferhr.

"I left the keys in the car," he said.

Then he went inside.

"As I was walking out, I heard someone start up a car and squeal out--in my car," he said.

He watched as his Jeep sped away without him.

"My immediate concern was about the car, because I wasn't even thinking about Elly," he said.

Elly would be his eight-month-old German short-haired pointer.

"Two seconds after I walk back into the store, I say, `Oh, crap, the dog's in the car,'" Benjamin said.

Police were called and the media was alerted.

Then early Saturday morning, Elly was dropped off in a portable dog kennel.  Benjamin got her back that afternoon.

"She freaked out when she saw me," he said.

Benjamin's problems are not yet over.  Because he got another car stolen earlier this year, his insurance company changed his policy and he found out that they're not going to cover his truck.

Benjamin asks that if you see his Jeep, please call police.
