In this week's radio address, President George W. Bush touted U.S.-led humanitarian projects aimed at helping people around the world.
The president says the initiatives will deliver "aid and comfort to those in need." He adds that Americans can be proud of U.S. "global leadership and generosity."
Bush spent the week rolling out a series of initiatives tackling global warming, AIDS and the humanitarian crisis in Darfur. His remarks today come as he prepares to meet with European leaders at next week's G-8 Summit.
He says the summit will explore ways to fight disease, increase access to education, and address climate change. Bush says it's in the U.S. interest to help lift societies out of poverty. As he puts it, prosperous nations are less likely to breed violence and export terror.
