Missing Cruise Passenger Possibly Fell Overboard

Search Resumes For Missing Cruise Passenger From Norwegian "Pearl"

MEXICO CITY (CBS) ― Three ships from Mexico's Navy, a helicopter and vessels from the U.S. Coast Guard have resumed their search in the waters off the Caribbean resort of Cancun for a woman who may have fallen from the Miami-based cruise ship Norwegian Pearl.

The Pearl returned to the Port of Miami on Sunday, reports CBS station WFOR-TV in Miami.

According to the Coast Guard, the husband of 36-year old Jennifer Seitz reported her missing to cruise ship security personnel around 3:50 a.m. Friday.

"Initial reports indicate the guest may have gone overboard while the ship was at sea, east of Cancun," an NCL said in a statement.

Cruise ship personnel conducted a comprehensive search of the ship. When they didn't find her, they then contacted the Coast Guard for assistance.

A U.S. Coast Guard search-and-rescue crew used a Falcon jet to try and find Feitz on Friday and resumed its search early Saturday using a larger C-130 aircraft, said Petty Officer Third Class Nick Ameen. Coast Guard aircrews from Miami and Clearwater have searched more than 2,500 square miles for Seitz.

Mexico's Fifth Naval Regional Command said in a statement that by late Friday it had found no sign of Feitz and was having to deal with "adverse conditions" and strong waves in the search taking place just over 17 miles east of Cancun.
