Wyatt is a regular donor at a blood bank in Anne Arundel County and he's just three-and-a-half years old.
Ron Matz has more on a lovable canine who is really man's and dog's best friend.
Sometimes an injured dog needs blood, and a friend with a big heart. Meet Wyatt, Dr. Jacqueline Falke's boxer, a rescue dog who's a canine blood donor.
"Being a veterinarian I know how important blood and plasma is in medical emergencies. So I really want to make sure that any pet owner or any pet has that available to them if they need it," said Dr. Jacqueline Falke, veterinarian.
Dr. Falke works at the Everhart Animal Hospital in Brooklyn. She recently entered Wyatt in a nationwide contest: a search to become the face of Milk Bone. Wyatt's good deeds helped him come in third. He also is raising the awareness of canine blood donations.
At Everhart, Wyatt is a superstar.
"What he does is definitely life-saving and an opportunity for someone to still care for another member of their family," said Shannon Strasburg-Herb, veterinary technician.
Wyatt has donated enough blood to save the lives of more than 50 dogs. His blood has gone all over the country.
"He goes there and he lays on the table and eats treats and donates his blood. It only takes about three to five minutes and he loves it," said Dr. Falke.
He gives life to others.
"I consider Wyatt not only man's best friend, but I think he's dog's best friend, too. He gives back to the canine community in a way I do too and that's really important to me," Dr. Falke said. "Wyatt is a rescue dog, I took him in and I couldn't ask for a better dog."
Wyatt donates blood every seven weeks at the Eastern Veterinary Blood Bank in Severna Park.
