Explosions Erupt Inside Woodlawn Industrial Park

WOODLAWN, Md. (WJZ) ―
A four-alarm fire shook up a Woodlawn industrial park after several tanks of propane exploded. The first call came in just before 9:30 Friday night. More than 25 Baltimore County fire crews were on the scene and several nearby families were evacuated.
It took five hours for the fire to be fully extinguished.
Ron Matz explains why firefighters had such a tough time putting out the flames.
The first few explosions were enough to rock the Woodlawn skies in Baltimore County Friday night, and they kept coming. More than a dozen bursts of fire lit up the sky and finally, there was an explosion.
Even drivers on 695 had a clear view.
"The best information is that at 9:22, we had a building fire. It escalated immediately into a second-alarm and went on to four alarms," said Lt. John Cromwell. "The fire crews did an excellent job," he said.
Cromwell couldn't say whether the building would be demolished.
The fire was brought under control around 2:30 a.m. Saturday.
The cause of the fire is not yet known, but crews are still investigating.
Two firefighters and a civilian were injured and were taken to area hospitals. Their injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
