Authorities are pledging this summer to strictly enforce laws against swimming and other violations at the three city-owned reservoirs.
The city's Department of Public Works is creating a team of watershed rangers to monitor and enforce laws around the Loch Raven, Liberty and Prettyboy reservoirs. Candidates are being interviewed and are expected to be hired within weeks. Four rangers will be assigned to each reservoir.
The mission is to protect the city's drinking water and the infrastructure. Rangers will watch for swimmers, fires, loose dogs, gas-powered boats, dumping and boundary encroachments.
A similar team of rangers folded about eight years ago. Officials say the pay and job descriptions weren't attractive enough to retain officers.
