A spokeswoman for the Maryland Department of Transportation says the Maryland Transit Administration and the state Motor Vehicle Administration have turned over documents to federal prosecutors investigating state Sen. Ulysses Currie.
Political reporter Pat Warren reports the federal prosecutor's focus includes Mondawmin Mall, which has a new Shoppers Food, and the Maryland Transit Administration and the MVA.
The MTA and MVA have handed over documents relating to Currie. A transportation spokesperson describes the number as a handful.
It's the latest gathering of evidence. When the FBI landed on Currie's doorstep in May, neighbors had no idea it was a raid.
"I saw the trucks, and I said, 'oh my goodness,'" said a neighbor.
It was contents in the senator's District Heights home they were after. Currie chairs the Senate Budget and Taxation Committee which votes on all legislation related to the state budget before it gets to the Senate floor.
The investigation appears to center on Currie's work as a consultant to Shoppers Food, a relationship he failed to disclose as required by law.
One of Currie's attorneys, Bill Murphy, says Currie can withstand the scrutiny.
"People in politics generally have a tough hide," said Murphy.
Investigators also subpoenaed Senate Budget and Taxation Committee documents which were delivered to federal prosecutors earlier this month.
