Drug Dealer Gets Life For Witness Slaying
BALTIMORE (AP) ―
A convicted drug dealer from Abingdon has been sentenced to life in prison after being linked to the death of a confidential informant.
Gary Williams Jr., 28, was never charged in the death of Robin Welshons. But U.S. District Judge William Quarles said Friday that he was convinced by a preponderance of evidence that Williams caused Welshons' death and that it was first-degree murder.
Prosecutors confronted Williams during his sentencing hearing last week with evidence that he had orchestrated Welshons' slaying.
Court records show that Welshons had recorded phone conversations with Williams and bought drugs from him. She was working as an informant for the federal Drug Enforcement Administration.
Welshons was shot to death in a doorway of an Aberdeen motel in February 2006.
