It's been a long time coming -- a massive clean-up of one of the most polluted waterways in Baltimore County.
Adam May reports it's all thanks to many volunteers that Back River looks much better.
Piles of waterlogged tires and trash bags full of plastic bottles are all plucked from the Back River in Essex.
"Ninety-five percent of the bottles I pick up are plastic water bottles. It's unbelievable," said a volunteer.
This weekend, 250 volunteers are cleaning up the polluted waterway.
"We want the public to know that Back River is a hidden gem. It's a place for kayaking, maritime industry, restaurants down here," said Jonas Jacobson.
"You know, it's a place where we have blue herons, ducks, geese, fish, beautiful sunsets and hopefully this will be the beginning of an awareness," said Councilman John Olszewski.
The clean-up isn't easy. The amount of debris is overwhelming to people like Brian Schlipp who grew up on the very same waters.
"Right now, we're changing the image of this area. When you drive by Monday and you look at low tide, you're gonna realize something's being done about this and hopefully people can get involved in it," said Schlipp.
You can help either through through volunteering in the future or simply throwing away what shouldn't end up in the water.
