East Baltimore Home's Problems Sicken Family

BALTIMORE (WJZ) ―

A dispute between an East Baltimore homeowner and the company that owns the house next door appears close to a possible settlement.

Richard Sher reports Daniel Mills and his family live at 607 North Linwood Avenue.

He claims water and clay in his basement are caused by the vacant house next door.

Mills has been calling the city for help.

On Friday, a housing code inspection team checked the house at 609 North Linwood and has made recommendations to Intercoastal Investment Trust, which owns the house.

"We will do exactly what the city has asked us to do. We're also bringing in a basement waterproofing company on Monday. We're also going to lengthen the downspout in the back, cleaning up debris, and having BGE turn on the electricity so the sump pump in the basement can handle any water that enters the basement," said Intercoastal CEO Philip Collector.

"My nephew has breathing problems from the mold and mildew. Every time it rains, there's more water that comes in," said Mills.

"We were in 609 today and have made recommendations to Phil Collector. We are very concerned about Mr. Mills and are going to help him," said Michael Braverman Deputy Commissioner of Baltimore's Housing Code Enforcement
