Walkersville To Consider New School Facility

WALKERSVILLE, Md. (AP) ―

Walkersville's commissioners will consider a proposal to allow a school to erect a new facility near the Walkersville Southern Railroad and Biggs Ford Road.

The Banner School had been prevented from construction after the town passed an ordinance April 9 that eliminated special exceptions on agricultural land.

The ordinance passed seven months after the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community applied to build a worship and recreation center on agricultural land on Woodsboro Pike.

The current proposal was recommended to the town commissioners in a 6-1 vote Tuesday night. It would allow the Banner School to proceed because it had gotten a special exception more than a year before the April ordinance.

The Banner School first went to the commissioners with development plans in March 2006. It got approval that year.
